- Yeomen Warders or Beefeaters guard the 900 year old Tower of London. They
are responsible for the care of the Tower ravens and guard the crown jewels.
They wear Tudor-style uniforms and have wonderful senses of humor. I spent an
entire afternoon chatting with one of these gentlemen and learned about the
legend of the ravens. It seems that as long as the ravens remain in the Tower,
it can never fall. So, the Warders clip the wings of the big black birds to
keep them from flying away. Simple!
